Working 9-5 and then some!!
I have a day off today and have been working on paying bills and procurring money. I worked a lot these past few weeks in order to pay off the medical bills from Jake’s accident and subsequent surgery. I am also working extra to pay for the cruise that Sam and I are taking the kids on in July. Last week, I used my Medical Flexible Spending Account to pay some of the medical bills. I still have a few to pay. The confusion lies in getting 2 different bills from the same place. One says our insurance denied multiple radiology charges incurred in the ER on the day of his accident - this bill is for over $14,000. The other says we owe $25 for the same services on the same day. The confusion is that the $14,000 bill is dated AFTER the $25 one. What’s up with that? Sam is going to call the insurance company on Monday to clear this up. Also, the ambulance company never billed my insurance company. I also filed with AFLAC right after the accident and received that money rather quickly (they are great about paying out on claims). Now, I need to file for the ambulance, surgery and follow-up visits. I did that online and now need to submit the receipts. Something was wrong with their site and I was unable to print out the claim forms. I also tried to file with my dental insurance to pay for vision expenses. This is rather difficult since the claim form I got from work appears to be the wrong one. My dental insurance changed and now they will use unused dental benefits from the prior year and reimburse you for vision care. I’m thinking I will get $400 from them. Pretty neat if I can actually get the money! I also got reimbursed for what was left in last year’s Flexible Spending Account since we changed companies. It was only $6.67 but it was mine and I wanted it! So, basically, I didn’t accomplish much today in getting money. But I made some progress in the right direction.
Work has been busy so I was finally able to get some extra shifts. I am scheduled for an extra shift in all but one of the next 5 weeks. If I get a few of them, I will be content. I also keep my eye out for extra shifts that might open up and let the charge nurses know of my availability should there be a sick call. My feet were aching last week. I hate being in debt and want to get these bills paid ASAP. I am also scheduled for some mandatory education next week. I can’t stand sitting through classes. One day is bad enough, but I am attending classes Monday, Tuesday and part of Wednesday. I work tomorrow, Thursday and Saturday night shift. I will sleep on Sunday morning after work and then hopefully be able to sleep Sunday night for work on Monday morning. I claimed exempt on federal and state taxes for my last paycheck and the next one so I have the extra $ available for the bills.
Sam’s work is picking up some, finally. Although his back is bothering him a lot and he thinks that he will have to slow down his pace to be able to keep working. At least one of us is healthy!
Hmm… no more snow boarding for Jake.
After further review of insurance payments, I found that the $14,000 bill was reduced to about $3,700. Much better but still sucks.
I can’t believe you got money from your FSA. What makes me angry with our company is, if we don’t use it, we lose it. BUT IT’S OUR MONEY?!?! Ergo the problem… do I put into it or not then? I chose not to for right now. That might change when Riley is born.
